Our Commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
At the Culinary Tourism Alliance, sustainability is at the heart of our mission. We actively align our operations and programs with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), striving to make meaningful contributions to global sustainability efforts.
-
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Through our Feast On® program, we encourage access to fresh, local, and nutritious food. By connecting people with growers, producers, and chefs, we help promote healthier communities and mindful, joyful food experiences that support overall well-being.
-
Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
We offer industry-specific training, educational workshops, and resources to culinary and tourism operators across the country. Our destination development work empowers regions with the knowledge and tools to build sustainable, place-based food experiences.
-
Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
We proudly showcase the work of women in food tourism, such as Indigenous chefs and female food entrepreneurs, through storytelling, events, and program delivery. We recognize the vital role women play in shaping sustainable food systems and community-based tourism.
-
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
We are a Living Wage Certified employer, and our programs support job creation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic development in the tourism and agrifood sectors. We invest in building a skilled, resilient, and valued workforce.
-
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
Through partnerships like Carbonzero, we adopt forward-thinking sustainability practices that reduce our environmental impact and encourage innovation in food tourism. We support destinations and operators in building low-carbon, regenerative culinary infrastructure.
-
Reduce inequality within and among countries.
We work to amplify underrepresented voices in tourism by supporting diverse operators including rural, Indigenous, and newcomer-led businesses and ensuring they are integrated into broader marketing and development strategies that reflect the diversity of Canada.
-
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Our destination development services help communities of all sizes develop food tourism experiences that reflect their unique culture and geography. We empower local leaders to create tourism products that are economically and environmentally sustainable.
-
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
In Ontario, our Feast On® certification program connects consumers with restaurants and foodservice businesses that prioritize sourcing local and sustainable food and drink. We help shift consumer habits and business practices toward low-waste, regionally grounded operations.
-
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
As a Greenstep Gold Certified business, we measure and offset the carbon footprint of our events and business travel through our partnership with Carbonzero, supporting verified climate action projects. We also educate our network about ways to reduce emissions in culinary tourism operations.
-
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources.
Feast On® encourages sustainable seafood practices and promotes suppliers who protect marine ecosystems. We educate consumers on the importance of responsible aquaculture and highlight businesses committed to ocean health.
-
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
We support farms and restaurants that embrace regenerative agriculture and biodiversity-friendly land use. By spotlighting businesses that protect ecosystems and source ethically through the Feast On® Program, we promote tourism that sustains both the land and the livelihoods connected to it.
-
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. From coast to coast to coast, we work with organizations of all sizes from national enterprises to small businesses because these relationships are essential to driving meaningful change.
